We are very excited to start our new school year and have met our new teachers. We have a new, very fun topic and it is called ...
Paws, Claws and Whiskers!
To continue with our topic of Paws, Claws and Whiskers we made imaginary animals and put different parts of animals together to make our very own. We used different materials to make different skin types for our animals.
Year 1 have had lots of fun at the library this week (7th and 8th October). When we arrived the library was all set up to have lots of fun. Wizzlewords were there to involve us in interactive story-drama, where we sang songs, danced, acted out a very exciting story and even relaxed to a story read by the ladies at Wizzlewords. It was so much fun, we dressed up as animals in the jungle and learnt how important it was to be kind and apologise if we make a mistake. Take a look at some of our really exciting pictures.
This week (20/10/2014) is our themed week named : Celebrating Similarities and Differences. We have just found out through an exciting lesson that we are going to be learning about Judaism and the festival Hanukkah. During our time this week we have learnt all about the story of Hanukkah and how the Jewish people found some oil which was only supposed to light a candle for 1 day but ity lasted for 8 days and 8 nights. It was a miracle! To celebrate Hanukkah Jewish people celebrate by giving gelts and presents to each other for 8 days and light a Menorah candle for 8 days too.
We are back to school after our half term break feeling refreshed and ready to find out what our new topic is for this half term.
Our new topic is about the very scary, very dangerous but very exciting...... DINOSAURS! We are already wondering what exciting things we are going to learn, find out and make in this topic.
Today (10/11/2014) the dinosaur man came into school. He brought with him lots of fossils of dinosaur bones, teeth and claws. He even brought a skull of a real life dinosaur from million of years ago and a leg! In the afternoon we had a go at making a plaster of paris copy of a claw and also done some fossil rubbings. Please take a look in our gallery for some pictures of our fantastic day.
Well what a fun day we have had! We have been busy writing letters to Father Christmas, explaining to him what we would like for Christmas and telling him how good we have been. After that we were very lucky and walked to the local post box to post our letters to Father Christmas. We wore our Christmas hats and sang Christmas songs the whole way. Take a look in our gallery for our exciting pictures.
In spring to start our new topic on Superheroes the children and staff had great fun dressing up as their favourite Superhero. They had a great day writing facts about their favourite Superhero and also designing a fantastic Superhero city moving picture.
