Year 4

A glimpse into Catholic Life, Collective Worship and R.E

 in Year 4.

A place where we CARE and SHARE and LEARN together.

On this page you will see pictures to celebrate all the elements of Catholic Life and Collective worship across Year 4. Throughout the year, children lead and participate in Collective Worship, take part in themed weeks as well as embedding Catholic Life into everything that we do, keeping Christ at the centre of our hearts.

Our School Virtues

At St Anne’s School we strive to actively promote values, virtues and ethics that shape our pupils' character and moral perspective, through the teachings of the Catholic Church.

We are confident that our continued focus on the Diocesan Virtues will give our pupils the necessary awareness of what it means to be a good citizen in Britain today, and embed in them the building blocks of a future successful and productive life.

Our whole school assemblies, phase assemblies, services and school Masses continually reiterate this. It is embedded throughout our curriculum and daily experiences.

Through our weekly Collective Worship, RE lessons, PSHE, SMVSC links and promoting The Beatitudes and Diocesan Virtues, we are able to make real links between the values of our pupils and the lives of others in their community, country and the world in general.

Through our themed weeks (such as friendship week and e-safety week) we teach about responsibility, rules and laws, the monarchy, equality, values and virtues, environmental awareness and importantly, respect of other world faiths.

Religious Education

We use the curriculum strategy for Religious Education in the Catholic Primary Schools of the Archdiocese of Birmingham Learning and Growing as the People of God. It makes learning about our faith lively, interactive and relevant.

Spiritual Learning Journal

The children in Year 4 have the opportunity to reflect on beliefs and values by talking, exploring, discussing, thinking and responding to questions. The children then articulate views and thoughts and listen attentively to others.

The children have the opportunity to think about their own questions of meaning and purpose and be able to express their own points of view. The questions and answers should give the children a sense of awe and wonder. Through these questions they will encounter the idea of mystery as well as appreciate that there are general questions about life that are difficult to answer. This will be evidenced in the Spiritual Learning Journal along with:

Cross-curricular learning (R.E through other subjects)

Children leading in Collective Worship

Whole class learning e.g. drama, practical based lessons.

Whole Class Masses and Assemblies

Prayer garden/church/ other locations

Community links, e.g. tea dance, carol service, entries on newsletters

Vocation links across the year

Twitter tweets

Class Saints Days, special weeks (e.g. Little Way)

What a typical Year 4 Focal point and Religious Education area looks like.

This is the centre of our classroom and a place where we can share our own private intentions, read one of our year group prayers or take a moment to reflect on our own day.

Catholic Life in preivous years

In October with think of Our Lady, Mary.
Year 4 used blue cloth for their altars and were taught the Rosary.
We learnt that each bead represents a prayer.

During Multifaith week Year 4 looked at the differences and similarities between Judaism and Catholicism.
We looked at artefact's that Jewish people use in a Synagogue.

Collective Worship in November is a time for thinking about those who have fallen during war or conflict.
In year 4 we all made poppies and combined them to make a wreath and a cross.
On Remembrance day we displayed our wreath and cross in the prayer garden.
We said the Eternal Rest for all the people who have lost their lives.

In our class 'I Wonder?' book we share our wonders of our faith.
A 'wonder' is asked and we discuss our ideas.  Please take a look at some of the pages from 4F's and 4W's book.
