Is your child entitled to Free School Meals?

We realise in the present situation your financial circumstances may have changed. You now may be eligible for FREE SCHOOL MEALS.

The Parent Portal can be accessed directly via website address

It is certainly worth finding out what you may be entitled to.

If you have recently used the school admissions system you will already have a Parent Portal account. You can use the same login credentials to make a free school meal application. You will be able to reset your password if required.

All requests for Free School Meals must be made via the new portal above and this will be your link with SMBC.  If you do not have an on-line portal account already you will be required to create one and this is where you share your up to date contact details.

The mandatory information required to create a Parent Portal account is:

  • Title
  • Forename
  • Surname
  • Address
  • Email Address
  • Secret Question / Answer (used for resetting passwords)
  • Password


An account verification email will be issued when a new account is created.



NOTE: You will need to add your child/children’s details to the Parent Portal account when you create a new account before you are able to submit an FSM application. This is completed as part of the account verification process by clicking on the “Add Child” button.

Parents are advised to contact the Solihull MBC Free School Meals Team on or              0121 704 6611 if they do not receive an email with the outcome of their application within 5 working days of the application being made.

The Solihull MBC position is for school to start providing FSM from the date the online application is made by a parent / carer.

 It is however accepted that on occasions a parent / carer may not have access to a computer with internet access. In this instance the following options should be considered:

  • Use a smartphone or tablet - The online solution has been designed to work on smartphones and tablets.  You may need to access the internet using google chrome, depending on device used.  This is free to download.
  • Computers are available at all Solihull Libraries.


No one will know you have registered and it will not affect any other benefits you are claiming.



If your application for free school meals is approved you will not need to re-apply each year unless your circumstances change.


If your application is approved the Local Authority will then update school.
